Finally, Adobe has released an official IFilter to support a 64-bit platform which can be found here:

I have yet to implement this in a production environment, but it’s got to be better than the hack to make the 32-bit install work in a 64-bit environment. Most likely you will need to recycle the OSearch service on your index server and then perform a full crawl in order to start seeing full text information of PDF’s.
