sorry i forgot to add that unlike Tarek Fawaz, i don't want a task list dependend on the project selected...

just like project list , i want it to display any previous task created..

hi is there honestly no way to make the task textfield into a dropdown box, really want to do that.. as with the program now, a user starts a tasks and must complete it...want to be able for user to work again on task..

Can you be more specific about how to edit permissions on each individual application page? I don't want regular help desk members to be able to even see the manager home page but I don't see where to edit this type of permission.

I am customizing this template and would like to add some choices to some of the default fields, Priority and Status. However I cannot find the table where they are pulling their values from, if it even is a table. Is this possible?

After a little more looking, if you are creating a template off of the “Blank Site” site definition you need to also add another FeatureSiteTemplateAssociation for the TemplateName of STS#1. The Blank site is a little special in that regards.

I understand why you may want to have a choice field instead of the single line of text for the Task column, however it looks like they just re-named the "special" Title field to Task, so there is no good way to remove it from the list, nor can you change the type of field that it’s in.

Since SharePoint can’t find out someone’s manager automatically, you would need to create a custom list with an employee column and a manager column, both people columns that your workflow would look into. If you had all those entries setup, in a step you could do a lookup into your managers custom list where employee = created by in your current item, then set that manager column in a workflow variable. Once you have that variable you should be able to put that in your TO field for the email (it should return DOMAIN\username which will get translated to the email address once it hits your email server).

With that same logic you should be able to do the same type of lookup for when the manager approves the item to email the employee back. The biggest issue is getting a list to track that information since none of that is accessible (WSS or MOSS) through SPD

Im trying to set up an EventReceiver to enable incomming mail to the service requests list.

But i cant gt that code working on that list (if i try the same vent on another list it works great) i would like to have function for users to send a email to th list... Any ideas?

If you want to limit who sees teh Pending Approval webpart, I would suggest just "security trimming" the Approve/Reject link by using an <xsl:if test="ddwrt:IfHasRights()"/> function. For more info on what the numbers mean inside of that function take a peek at this post:

Basically choose a permission level that only admins and managers have access to and use that to hide or show the Approve/Reject link. This way, employee's will still be able to see if their request is still pending.

My organisation is using the knowledge base template as the basis for an internal knowledge base. I am trying to customise the article pages removing the quick launch, where is the template for the article content page and how can I get at it?

In response to this, unfortunatly because the template is it using is the CreateWebPage.aspx page that sits in the LAYOUTS directory and must be referencing the out of the box Wiki template (for which I haven't been able to find yet), there really is no good way to edit that template.

Pat,

The GUID for any list can be found by going to the List Settings Page. From there look at the URL, you will see something like:

/_layouts/listedit.aspx?List=%7B3190FC4D%2D7929%2D437C%2D944B%2D6BE51087A21F%7D

That is basically your GUID... to make the GUID look "normal" just replace the following codes with their character equivalent:

%7B = {

%2D = -

%7D = }

That'll then make your GUID look like so:

{3190FC4D-7929-437C-944B-6BE51087A21F}

When starting with your "site" object in PowerShell, you basically start with the site you are on. From your examples I would start with:

$site = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite("mysite/.../teamsite")

$web = $site.OpenWeb()

$list = $web.Lists["Service Requests"]

Lenny,

If you are trying to hide the "Service Request" name field, that is the out of the box title field, just renamed... and because everything with that item is derrived from that Title, you really shouldn't hide that field because it should get filled out.

That doesn't mean you couldn't auto-populate that field with their name and date of the request (or any other information you want to standardize on) by using the calculated value of the "default value" option.

As for the ability to limit what people see, take a look at my response to "I Love SharePoint" where I specify how to utilize Item-Level permissions on any list.
