
Highlights for new features:
Here are some of the highlights from the Keynote this morning. Obviously this does not include all that was mentioned but this should give you a taste of what is coming.
Public BETA available in November
Scale and capability:
- Support for million items for list.
- 10 million items for a library
Rich Media:
- New content types.
- Automatic streaming videos via IIS capabilities and Silverlight control.
Content types for the enterprise. Not site, site collection, web app, farm but for the entire enterprise.
Search:
- FAST offering for SharePoint
- Wild card search support
- Filter navigation much richer and queried in parallel for superior performance
- Preview for search result items such as PowerPoint slides
- 100 million rows for search
- FAST if you need to scale to more content
Insights:
Visio services:
- Business process in diagrams tied to the service infrastructure and available via the web
Power Pivot:
- SQL server Power pivot for excel and SQL server power pivot for SharePoint
- Code Name "Gemini"
- In memory editing for large sets for data
- 100 million rows in excel and mange, audit, filter, analyze in real time. Filter, sort 100 million rows in an instant.
Social Networking:
- Ratings and commenting are supported by default.
- All Office Client application now have browser viewer not just for read only but with edit capabilities.
People Search:
- Supports wildcards
- Support for zero term query to find additional content related to search result such as recent documents etc
- Org chart Silverlight viewer for the organization tied to “People Search”
Admin Capabilities Highlights:
- Upgrade can be performed in stages
- You can upgrade the farm and change the UI later
- You can preview the new look and feel via the visual preview before flipping the switch
- Powershell natively supported for SharePoint.
- 500+ PS commends ships with the BETA release.
- Remote access to the farm and servers via POSH.
